Welcome to Live Oak, a beautiful neighborhood with larger parcels of land located between the City of Santa Cruz and Capitola. In the early 1900’s, two realtors subdivided local wheat farms into 2.5 acre lots with a kit for a two-bedroom home and one or two large chicken coops stocked with 1,000 chickens! In the 1940’s, multiple begonia nurseries thrived in the area and this is how the Begonia Festival began. In the 1950’s, the area started to become a suburb of Santa Cruz and all the past development has left Live Oak with areas where you feel like you’re on a farm even though you’re in the middle of town.
